     Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center

The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center was named in honor of its major donor, and features the Boeing Aviation Hangar in which aircraft are displayed on three levels.  The James S. McDonnell Space Hangar opened in November 2004 and displays hundreds of famous spacecraft, rockets, satellites and space-related small artifacts. The centerpiece of the space hangar is the Space Shuttle Discovery. In addition, the Donald D. Engen Observation Tower provides an excellent location from which visitors can watch air traffic at Dulles Airport.

For educators, the Udvar-Hazy Center offers a variety of programs catered to your time restraints and standards.  The education team has created both virtual and in-person options for students and teachers to provide immersive air and space content. In person, teachers and students can schedule tours that focus on a theme or concept taught in the classroom.  There are also reservable scavenger hunts for both large and small groups, self-guided tour packets available, and IMAX movies that can be scheduled “On Demand” for an earlier viewing.  The most exciting addition to the museum program are Learning Labs that can be scheduled for classes or entire grade levels. The Center offers 60 minute classroom labs for Grades 1-12 which are multidisciplinary, hands-on, and fun for students, teachers, and parents.
