    Preparing for the PSAT: Wednesday, October 16th

    Who: 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students

    When: Wednesday, October 16th during the school day, 9:15-1:30

    What to bring: #2 pencils (not mechanical), graphing calculator and snacks for break

    Where: R­­­eport to your A1 class first. You will be dismissed by announcement to go to your testing locations, alpha order by last name and grade. (You will be notified of your testing location prior to test day.) Academy of Loudoun students who attend the Academy on A days will test at the Academy. These students receive their Student Guides at Heritage.

    What: All 9th graders will take the PSAT 8/9. All 10th and 11th graders will take the PSAT/NMSQT (scholarship qualifying test). This is your chance to practice for the SAT, free of charge.

    ·       Review the Student Guide given to you or access the online Student Guide. (CollegeBoard does not provide a hard copy of the PSAT 8/9 Student Guide.)

    ·       PSAT Information can also be found on the HHS School Counseling Webpage under: Academics> Testing> PSATs.

    ·       The Khan Academy is the CollegeBoard recommended free and personalized tool to use for your preparation for PSATs as well as SATs. You may access Khan Academy online:

    o   https://www.khanacademy.org/sat

    ·       Create a CollegeBoard and a Khan Academy account now so you can access your PSAT scores online in December* and make use of the Khan Academy free SAT practice based directly on your PSAT score evaluation. You can also start general test-prep with the Khan academy now. Be sure your email information matches in both accounts to avoid sign-up confusion. *CollegeBoard determines the release date of scores. This date may change based on CollegeBoard’s scoring turn-around.

    ·       For issues with Khan Academy/CollegeBoard sign-up, please contact CollegeBoard directly.

    And Remember: On the night before and the day of the PSATs:

    ·      Get a good night's sleep the night before the test.

    ·      Eat a good breakfast the morning of the test.

    ·      Get to school on time.

    ·      Bring the following:

    o   Graphing Calculator (See approved calculator list on back. School does not provide.)

    o   Two sharpened #2 Pencils (mechanical pencils are not allowed by CollegeBoard)

    o   School Picture ID

    o   Snacks for breaks.

    ·      Do not leave any questions blank. There is no longer a penalty for guessing!
