     Patricia Smith - IFT

Mrs. Smith is very excited to be part of the Discovery Staff  – home of the Trailblazers.  This will be her twenty-fifth year teaching in Loudoun County and her tenth year as the Instructional Facilitator for Technology. She taught ten years in fifth grade and four years in fourth grade.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from St. Bonaventure University in upstate New York and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University.

She currently lives in Leesburg, Virginia with her husband and with her girl and boy twins along with their family dog, English Springer Spaniel, Bailey.

In her spare time, Mrs. Smith loves biking, and playing any type of sport.

She helps teachers in grades to K-5 integrate educational technology in the classroom in meaningful and innovative ways. She is a lifelong learner who enjoys sharing her knowledge with educators.

It has always been her passion to work with children especially with the use of technology. Used to support both teaching and learning, she believes technology infuses classroom engagement and builds 21st century learning skills. She is very excited to be a member of Personalized Learning leadership team again this year.  In a personalized learning environment all (students/teachers) will have voice and choice and are intrinsically motivated to innovate and problem solve.

Mrs. Smith looks forward to a fantastic school year at Discovery Elementary!

     Pamela Pontius
Mrs. Pontius is very excited to be here at Discovery for her third year as the Technology Assistant.  This will be her ninth year working in the Loudoun County Public School system.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University in Interior Design.  She put this degree to work as an interior landscape designer for a number of years after graduating.  She enjoyed this type of work very much.

Then, something came along that she enjoyed even more.  She had two children and decided to stay home to raise them for many years.  She volunteered heavily in school during their elementary years and became passionate about working with young students. Once her own children moved on to middle school, she began to substitute teach.  Six years later, she decided she liked it so much that she wanted to work in the schools full-time.  She is still very happy about this decision.
Mrs. Pontius loves working alongside Mrs. Smith to help the students with technology and all of the apps and programs that go along with it.
She currently lives in Potomac Falls, Virginia with her husband.  Her oldest daughter graduated from Virginia Tech and has a great marketing job in the area and her son is a Sophomore at Stanford University.
In her spare time, Mrs. Pontius enjoys gardening, walking with friends, the beach and reading.

Mrs. Pontius looks forward to another awesome school year at Discovery Elementary!
