John W. Tolbert proudly joins Loudoun County in the Backpack Buddies Program

Did you know that in Loudoun County alone, there are approximately 11,330 children that are food insecure?  Food insecure is "the limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe food."  Last school year, 1 in 6 Loudoun County school children qualified for free or reduced-price school lunches.  What happens to these children when they go home for the weekend?

Backpack Buddies (BPB) is a program model created by Feeding America to provide food for the weekend to elementary school children who are in need.  Tolbert is currently providing food to 30 students at our school.  Each week we provide a bag filled with 6 meals and 2 snacks plus juice and shelf milk for the child to take home for the weekend.
