• Dr. Michael Tomlinson is new to the Academy of Science as of the Fall of 2012. Prior to teaching at the Academy, he taught high school science in Montgomery County Maryland for three years. He has a double certification in chemistry and physics and has taught courses including Honors Chemistry, Matter & Energy, and Global Ecology Chemistry in Montgomery County.

Dr. Tomlinson earned a PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2005 where he studied controlled free-radical polymerization mechanisms and characteristics of surface-confined polymers. After graduation, he took a position as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Sheffield in England where he studied polymer-water interfaces using neutron reflectometry. In England, he was part of the Marie Curie Research Training Network POLYFILM and was able to travel an collaborate with colleagues across many countries in Europe.

Dr. Tomlinson currently teaches AP Chemistry, 10th Grade Integrated Science, 10th Grade Research, and Independent Research for 11th and 12 Grade.
