Hello! My name is Shannon Wood! This is my 12th year teaching in LCPS and my 6th year at Liberty! I love being part of the Liberty Eagles family and back on the kindergarten team! I graduated from Radford University in 2010 with a BS degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (emphasis English and Dance) in 2010. I was in the 100^th graduating class at Radford University. I then received my teaching certificate in Elementary Education in 2011.  During college I danced on the RU Dance Team (RU Rockers) and worked at RU’s LARC (Learning Resource Center).   In 2011-2012, I was a long-term substitute in two first grade classes and taught dance classes at a local studio. 

I have a five year old daughter named AnnaBelle, a two year old son named Landon and a eleven year old dog named Gypsy! They keep me very busy running around the house. Sometimes I feel like a classroom of 20 kids is easier to manage than two kids. In my spare time, I love to travel, dance, have bonfires, attend sporting events, craft and play games of any sort. I love being active but also enjoy relaxing on the couch after a long day.  I have had the amazing opportunity to travel to China, Greece, Turks and Caicos and Aruba.

I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun summer playing outside, visiting family, reading books, and traveling!  I can’t wait to hear everyone’s summer stories and interests. I look forward to seeing everyone soon!

All About Mrs. Chauhan:

My name is Sonia Chauhan and I will be Mrs. Wood’s teacher assistant this year. I am very excited to begin my fifth year of teaching - all of which have been at Liberty Elementary School! I completed my education in India a while back and began as a substitute teacher for two years and moved onto special education. Now, I am beginning my first year as a Kindergarten teacher assistant! Being a mother of three children - who have all graduated from Liberty - I have loved teaching for many years, especially at the same school that my children attended. Therefore, I hope to bring the lessons learned from my children and pass them onto incoming students at Liberty, helping them grow into curious students who reach their full potential in the classroom and beyond. Once again, I cannot wait to get this year kicked off and work with the little scholars joining us soon!
