    About Me…

My name is Jessica Wippich and this is my 10th year teaching 5th grade at Algonkian.  We learn a lot of interesting things in fifth grade and I am really looking forward to all of the fun your child and I are going to have on our journey!

A bit about my background: I grew up as an Air Force “military brat” and moved all over the United States. During one stay in Maryland, I had the most wonderful school year which eventually motivated me to become a teacher. My teacher, Mrs. Smith, actually managed to make learning FUN, giving us the opportunity to learn in a variety of ways, all the while maintaining order and a positive working environment. I utilize a lot of the same strategies in my teaching and hope my enthusiasm for learning will motivate your child to try his or her best.

When I finally settled in Virginia, I finished high school and then graduated from George Mason University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in English (concentration in cultural studies). After graduating, I worked for over six years at a software company in Tysons Corner. I had always wanted to be a teacher, though it wasn’t until 2009 that I decided I was ready to pursue my dream. In order to achieve my goal, I once again became a student at George Mason University, this time earning my Master of Elementary Education degree and Pre-K-6 teaching licensure.

A lifelong learner, I am excited to share that I have decided to return to George Mason University to get a second master's degree, this time with a concentration in Diversity and Exceptionality in Grades PK-12. Helping Algonkian’s diverse population of students has always been a passion of mine, and this program will provide me with new strategies to help my special education, English language learners, and gifted students. I will be taking courses in the evening but will still be available so please do not hesitate to contact me!

When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband, Jason, our adorable (energetic!) son, Nicholas (also a Bobcat), and our dog Patches. In my spare time, I also love being able to visit with my family, reading, writing, anything artsy or creative, and hanging out with friends.

I am really looking forward to the opportunity to get to know your child this year. I am sure we will have a lot of great experiences and opportunities to learn and grow together in the months ahead.  If you have questions or concerns, please email me directly at jessica.wippich@lcps.org.
