    Gymnastics

    Last Thursday the Woodgrove Varsity Gymnastics team took 3rd at LVHS. Marissa Friedl placed 1st on vault, 2nd on beam, and 3rd all around. Laura McMullen got 4th on beam and Angela Gutierrez got 5th on
    floor. Great Job Ladies!

    StepUp Loudoun

    Has extended their registration to Dec. 21st and we encourage all Wolverines to consider what you would like to see change in our community, then rally some friends and come up with a plan to make it happen for your chance to win $1000 in the March 2020 competition! A representative from StepUp Loudoun will be outside the cafeteria on Tuesday 12/10. Whether you’re interested in the competition or not, stop by the table to put your ideas on our board…we’d love to hear your thoughts! Take a look at some of last years ideas!

    The Woodgrove High School Medical Explorers Club

    We are hosting a Soles 4 Souls shoe drive in which any gently worn shoes can be dropped into the large blue, gray, and white snowflake covered box in the main lobby. These shoes will be going to people in need, and any range of shoes, whether they be sandals, boots, sneakers, cleats, or anything else will be accepted.

    Last week, the Sharp family experienced a gas explosion that started a fire and destroyed their home. Tomorrow, WHS will be
    participating in a Jeans Day event to collect donations to help the Sharp family with their medical and other bills. Staff will be donating $5 each to wear jeans, and any donations from students will be gladly accepted. Doantions will be collected in FACEtime.

    Congratulations Woodgrove Marching Wolverines. The Marching Band traveled to Nokesville this past Saturday for the VBODA
    Marching Band Assessment. The Marching Wolverines received a Superior Rating. A Superior is the highest award given at the

    Debate

    The Woodgrove Policy and Lincoln Douglas Debate Teams competed in the first local tournament of the season this weekend at Dominion High School. For many debaters, this was their first competition ever. Hearty
    congratulations to Seth Gardner and Drake Woehrle who finished in second place overall in the novice policy division. Woodgrove also scored a first place overall in the varsity Lincoln Douglass division with Nathan
    Rand finishing undefeated for the tournament.  In addition to those who placed, the following debaters also deserve special mention. Henry Ziegler finished with a 3-1 record in novice LD.Jacob Lertora also finished with a 3-1 record in JV, earning a half bid to metro finals. In varsity, Riley Parsons finished 3-1 and earned a half bid to
    metrofinals as well.
    Kudos to everyone who completed.

     

     

    Marching Band

    The Woodgrove Marching Band traveled to Richmond this past weekend to compete in the Tournament of Champions.  The Marching Band had a fantastic performance winning 1st place trophies in Music, Visual Effect, Percussion, Color Guard and General Effect.  The Marching Band also won 1st place in group 3 at the competition.

    PSAT test day is tomorrow, October 16th for all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. You will report to yiur DENtime at the start of the day. On test day bring #2 pencils, an approved calculator is optional, a list may be found on the Woodgrove website and on your google grade level classroom page. Cell phones are NOT permitted.  

    The WHS Debate Team participated in its first local tournament of the year at Yorktown High School in Arlington.  Our novice Public Forum debaters performed remarkably well with the team of Grayson Donohoe and Finn finishing with a 3-0 record and placing 12th out of 86 teams.  Liam Sulivan and Aileen Santikarma went 2-1, finishing 20th overall.  Elizabeth Johnson-Quintard competed in Model Congress.  Her resolution was accepted and debated in the chamber, and she received excellent scores.  The policy and Lincoln Douglas teams will compete this weekend in their first local tournament of the season.  Congratulations to everyone who competed!

    The Students Assisting Veterans Club will hold its second meeting tomorrow, Friday October 11th at 8:30AM in room #607.  All students are welcome to attend.

    Attention  SENIORS...If you are able to write in another language at the intermediate-mid level, you are eligible for the Seal of Biliteracy.  To be awarded this honor, you must take a test to prove your writing ability.  See your language teacher or Frau Hall ASAP to register to take the Credit Through Testing Assessment.  It's free, but takes place in early November.

    German, French, & Spanish students in Level 5, see your teacher or Frau Hall immediately if you are applying for the Willowcroft Scholarship.  Applications are due on Tuesday, October 15th.

    PSAT test day is on Wednesday, October 16th for all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students.  Be sure and check your grade level google classroom pages for information.  On test day bring pencils, a calculator is optional.  Cell phones are NOT permitted. 

    HOMECOMING Customized Mum Corsages will be sold at the Football game Friday night.  Cost is $10.00.  All proceeds benefit the Transition program at Woodgrove High School.

    Come join the WHS and Valley combined orchestras tonight in a side by side event at Franklin Park.  Attendees are sure to see the Bob Ross exhibit, so come out and enjoy the evening.  Concert is FREE to all!

    WHS/LVHS FREE Side by Side Orchestra Concert at Franklin Park on Wednesday, Oct. 10th. 

    Learners permit test is being offered on October 22nd at 8am.  Your parent must email Mrs. Jenkins to register for test.  Must be at least 15 and 6 months and you cannot have failed the test twice previously to be able to test at school.

    If you purchased a spirit pack this year be aware that your ticket will be at the gate on Wednesday.

     If you are interested in joining the Flag Football Club, Club leaders will hold an interest meeting this Friday at 8:30 am in the Aux Gym.

    There will be a DECA meeting in the cafeteria on Thursday for those that are competing in districts or interested in doing a written event.

    The Woodgrove Debate team traveled to New Haven, Connecticut this weekend to compete in the Yale Invitational Debate Tournament. Going against some of the best debaters in the country, our Wolverine Debate Team fought out 23 wins and learned a lot in this early season event. It is not too late to join the debate team. If you are interested, practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in room 407.

     

    Off-season training for boys soccer will begin next week on August 23.  Please submit your athletic paperwork ASAP!

    Last Saturday was Woodgrove's first cross country meet for the 2019 season! In the girls varsity race: senior Audrey Warner placed 10th and junior Moriah Wauer placed 15th; in the JV girls race: freshman Layna Capritta placed 1st, junior Ashley Moriarty placed 2nd, and freshman Magen Wauer placed 3rd; in the varsity boys race: junior Nolan Pettit placed 22nd; and in the boys JV race: junior Brendan Szabo placed 5th and freshman Zach Mezeska placed 15th; the varsity girls came in third overall to win a team title. Congrats to the cross country team on a fantastic first meet!

    Come try out for the fall play, Crazytown, by Jonathan Rand where our motto is "Welcome to Crazytown." Bring a 1-minute story or comedic monologue to share. Stop by room 802 for an audition packet and sign up for a time on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 4-6pm.

     

    All students who are interested in joining Battle of the Books should try and attend a general interest meeting after school on Wednesday 9/4 from 4-5pm. If you are unable to attend, please see Mrs. Wilburn in the Library!

     

    Auditions for our women's acappella group THE BELLTONES will be held on Thursday 9/5 at 8:00am. Auditions will include singing the National Anthem in small groups. You can find copies of the National Anthem in room 803. Singing the melody is just fine! This group is open to all Woodgrove students and rehearses on Thursday mornings at 8:00am. If you are unable to attend auditions, please see Mrs. Morgan as soon as possible!

    This week, come out to Chik-Fil-A to support Woodgrove HS! Tell the cashier in the store or drive-thru, "I'm here to support Woodgrove HS." The winning school will be awarded a $1000 check during half-time at the Woodgrove-Valley game. Come out and show your spirit this week!

     

    The Woodgrove Debate Team is coming off its most successful season ever. We are looking to build on that success, but we need you to make it happen. If you like to think critically with a clash of ideas, consider checking out what the debate team has to offer. We have our first practice of the year this Tuesday after school in room 407. No previous experience in competitive debate is required. Come by to see what it's all about! Returning team members, let's make this season even better than the last!
