The Mathematics Department at Stone Hill Middle School supports a comprehensive program that enables all students to be college and career ready at the completion of high school. The mathematics department provides calculator technology as appropriate and as required by state testing regulations and suggested for SAT and ACT. The mathematics program provides manipulatives to assist all students in understanding high level mathematics concepts through critical thinking and mathematical reasoning. The mathematics program provides benchmark assessments to ensure that instruction and curriculum are aligned with VDOE Standards and to provide teachers a tool to identify student strengths and weaknesses. The mathematics department ensures that curricula are aligned to (and exceed) state standards and reflect current, research-based pedagogy. Finally, the mathematics department provides teachers with staff development on curricular changes, instructional strategies, instructional materials, as well as opportunities to attend conferences.
