    The Program:  Our English Language Learners (EL) program is in its ninth year at Briar Woods High School.  I am very proud of the progress all returning students made over the past school year and look forward to more of the same this year.  I am proud of the many students, who through hard work and dedication to their own education, have exited the program.  They will have a full schedule of non-EL courses this year.  Several other students have progressed to a partial EL schedule joining the native language speakers in some of their core courses this year.  I also wish to offer a warm welcome to our new students, and assure them that they will find success and friendship at Briar Woods High School.  Our EL student population currently represents eight different native languages from around the world. 

    Biography:  Ms. Jackson holds a Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Shenandoah University.  She has taught English Learners ranging in age from pre-school through adults.  In addition to her work at Briar Woods High, she teaches EL adults through Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Adult Education Program.  This is Ms. Jackson’s 14th year teaching in Loudoun County Public Schools.  Ms. Jackson’s educational travels through fascinating and rich cultures such as China, Peru, Thailand, and Turkey help her understand and serve her EL students and their families.  Parents, email is the best way to contact me:  Nancy.Jackson@lcps.org.
