    Principal

Welcome to JML!  I am thrilled to be the principal of a school where parent support, fantastic students and teachers dedicated to building relationships and promoting student achievement is the norm!

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Trenton State College in New Jersey in elementary education/English, and began my career teaching 7th and 8th grade at my former middle school in Freehold, NJ. I then moved to Baltimore and taught 8th grade English at Thurgood Marshall #171. After a year, I kept moving south, where I found a home teaching in Loudoun County, and I have been here ever since! I taught 7th and 8th grade at Sterling Middle School before opening Mercer as a charter staff member in 2004 in the English department.

I earned my master's degree in education leadership from George Mason University in 2006, and accepted a dean's position at Mercer that same year. I was a dean at Mercer for five years, and enjoyed beginning the middle school years with sixth graders, watching them grow socially, physically, and intellectually as we moved from year to year together. As an assistant principal there from 2011-2015, I coordinated SOL testing, served as the special education contact, and implemented intervention strategies for struggling students.

It has been my pleasure and privilege to be the principal here at Lunsford since August, 2015.  In that time, our school has implemented the initiatives of personalized learning, PBL, and One to the World in order to help our students make meaningful contributions to the world.  Our school has received numerous awards for academic excellence, music and art achievement, and our focus on students' social and emotional health allows us to challenge children intellectually while nurturing them.

In my spare time, I love to watch my daughter participate in competitive cheer, and am always in training for various distance races ranging from 5k’s to marathons.

I encourage the entire Lion community to take advantage of everything Lunsford has to offer. My door is always open to hear your questions and concerns.
