Mrs. Courtney McCartney
I am very excited about starting my sixth year at Legacy Elementary! This will be my twelfth year teaching. Previously, I taught at Hillside Elementary School where I worked with both fourth and fifth grades as a Resource Teacher. I absolutely love teaching fourth grade and am very excited for the upcoming year!
I am a "Loudoun grown" teacher as I graduated from Stone Bridge High School. I attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia for both my Bachelors and Masters degrees (Go Dukes!) Since I majored in music and was a member of the Marching Royal Dukes, I still enjoy playing music and am a member of the Loudoun Symphonic Winds, a community band in Loudoun County. I live in Sterling with my husband, our spunky five-year old (Eleanor) who is starting kindergarten this year, our three-month old (Maya), and our very loud rescue dog, Masha.
As a teacher, I believe that it is not only my role to teach you math, reading, history, and science, but to develop a community where we can feel comfortable taking risks and meeting challenges head on. Learning is so much more than memorizing facts and we will learn to think critically about the world around us, all while appreciating each others' strengths and gifts in an inclusive environment.
I can not wait to introduce you to your new school year! It is going to be a SUPER year!
