• Dominion High School International Trips for the 2019-2020 School Year

    Applications will be available in mid-September for the spring 2020 exchanges sponsored by Dominion High School. The following trips have been proposed for the spring semester 2020 and are pending approval from the LCPS administration.  All costs will vary based upon airfare costs at the time of booking.  Students may get additional information and a copy of the application at Global Ambassadors Club meetings (held Fridays at 8:30 in the auditorium), from any of the teacher chaperones, or posted outside of room 401.
     
     
     
    Qatar Exchange **PENDING**
    Dates:  February 8th to 16th
     
    Teacher sponsor: Mrs. Jennifer Rodgers and Mr. Tom Wellington (Park View High School)
     
     
    This exchange is contingent upon a grant from the Qatar Foundation.  More information will be available at the end of September.  
     
    Elibility:  10th, 11th, and 12th grade students are invited to apply.  Special consideration will be given to students that have contributed to the globally-focused programs/clubs at Dominion. 
     
    Estimated cost:  approximately $500
     
     
    Spain Exchange
    Dates:  March 28th to April 7th (approximate)
     
    Teacher sponsors:  Mrs. Meda Lupas and 
     
    Approximately twelve students will have an opportunity to visit take part in a language and cultural exchange to our partner school in Catalonia, Spain.  Students will also spend two days/nights exploring historical and cultural sites in Madrid. 
     
    Eligibility:  This trip is only open to students in upper level Spanish courses.

    Romania Summit
    Dates:  March 28th to April 5th (approximate)
     
    Teacher sponsor:  Mr. Calin Lupas
     
    This will be Dominion's second year attending the Translyvania College International Youth Summit.  This program brings together students from around the world to debate global issues.  Students also visit sites of historical and cultural interest in the Translyvania region of Romania.
     
    Elibility:  10th, 11th, and 12th grade students are invited to apply.  Special consideration will be given to students that have contributed to the globally-focused programs/clubs at Dominion.

    Italy Exchange
    Dates:  April 1st to April 12th (approximate)
     
    Teacher sponsors:  Miss Caitlin Campbell and Mr. Jeff Dunn
     
    Eight students will have an opportunity to visit take part in our first cultural exchange to Rosina Salvo, our partner school in Sicily, Italy.  Students will also spend two days/nights exploring historical and cultural sites in Rome. 
     
    Eligibility:  10th, 11th, and 12th grade students are invited to apply.  Special consideration will be given to students that have contributed to the globally-focused programs/clubs at Dominion. 
     
    Estimated cost:  approximately $2500
     
     
     
    Singapore Exchange and visit to Cambodia
    Dates:  April 1st to April 12th (approximate)
     
    Teacher sponsors:  Mrs. Jen Rodgers and Ms. My-Van Nguyen
     
    Twelve students will have an opportunity to visit Singapore and Cambodia.  In Singapore, we will visit our partner school, the Hwa Chong Institution as well as sites of historical and cultural significance.  Students will have a one-night homestay and spend the other nights in Singapore at Hwa Chong's boarding school.  We will depart Singapore for Cambodia, where we will visit the ancient ruins in Siem Reap and learn more about the tragic history of the genocide that occurred in this country in the 1970s in Phnom Penh.
     
    Eligibility:  10th, 11th, and 12th grade students are invited to apply.  Special consideration will be given to students that have contributed to the globally-focused programs/clubs at Dominion.

    South Africa Summit
    Dates:  April 25th to May 4th (approximate)
     
    Teacher sponsors:  Mrs. Kathy McDermott
     
    Students will be hosted by their peers at the Clifton School in Durban, South Africa (an all-boys school).  Dominion has participated in cultural exchanges for the past five years to the Clifton School.  This will be the first year the school will host an international summit, meaning there will be students in attendance from multiple countries.   
     
    Eligibility:  10th, 11th, and 12th grade students are invited to apply.  Special consideration will be given to students that have contributed to the globally-focused programs/clubs at Dominion.
