• Mixed Chorus 280000 (Mixed Choir/Voices of Valhalla)
    Grades 9-12 Credit: 1
    Prerequisite: None

Students explore the fundamentals of music theory and singing as a group. Through participation in ensemble performances, students build self-confidence, display teamwork, and strengthen both individual and choral vocal skills. Students are required to participate in all ensemble performances (please refer to calendar link and class announcements for dates). This ensemble performs for several events throughout the school year to include school concerts, assemblies, caroling, District Assessment, and graduation.  Class curriculum also covers audition etiquette, skills and material. Participation in county/district, state, and/or regional honor choir auditions/events is not mandatory, but encouraged.

Advanced Mixed Chorus 282000 (Advanced Mixed Chorus/Viking Chamber Singers)
    Grades 9-12 Credit: 1
    Prerequisite: Audition

Advanced Chorus is a select group of highly motivated and committed students who are seeking a more intense performance experience. Members of this group will continue to build their individual skills by performing in a variety of settings. Students will develop choral literacy by singing a wide variety of choral literature that is both sacred and secular. Music literacy and sight reading are components of this class. Participation in concerts as well as certain choral competitions is required.  Class curriculum also covers audition etiquette, skills and material. Participation in county/district, state, and/or regional honor choir auditions/events is not mandatory, but highly encouraged.
Advanced Mixed Chorus H 282100 (Honors section of the Advanced Mixed Chorus/Viking Chamber Singers)
    Grade(s): 9-12 Credit:1.5
Prerequisite: Audition and enrollment in Advanced Mixed Chorus
In addition to the above description for Advanced Mixed Chorus, the Honors section of this class offers students the opportunity for further depth through a series of self-directed projects. Students enrolled in Honors Chorus must complete 4 projects from a provided list throughout the year (at least 2 by the close of 1st semester and any remaining projects by late May) in order to maintain their Honors status. Students will receive an extra 0.5 credit after completing this course in its entirety.

Throughout the year, classes will be mixed/divided to provide every student with opportunities to sing in SSAA (Women's)/TTBB (Men's), and SATB (Mixed) settings.

Most students progress from 8th Grade Chorus to Mixed Chorus (Concert Choir) as the next level in their progression. Occasionally, a student may have mastered techniques required for the next level and they have the option to seek advanced placement within the choral program. In this case, an advanced placement audition is required. Audition information will be communicated through BRMS & LVHS Chorus classes in April and auditions take place in May ahead of the next school year.

We have a place for everyone - from those progressing to the next level, to those who have taken a break and want to return to singing, to those who have never studied voice before, and those who learned to sing outside of the choral setting. We welcome anyone who wants to sing! See or email Ms. Holowecki with any questions you might have. <kelly.holowecki@lcps.org>
