    Beginning Guitar

    Topics covered in class include:

    • Pick and fingerstyle techniques
    • Basic Chords
    • Standard musical notation and tablature
    • Knowledge of fretboard through fifth position
    • Intro to right and left hand techniques
    • Solo and ensemble literature

    Students are expected to practice 15-30 minutes a day.

     

    Required Materials for Course:

    Home:  Nylon string classical guitar, footstool

    Classroom: Textbook- ‘Hands on Training – First-Year Guitar’

    Required Textbook

     

    Recommended:

    1. Electronic Guitar Tuner
    2. Music Stand
    3. Extra set of strings for home

    Important Dates:

    1. Tag Day:  Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022- 9am-2pm. Fundraising Day for the Fine Arts Program. We are looking for parent volunteers to drive students around South Riding. More info to come.

    Activity Description

    9:00 a.m. Students arrive at Freedom and sign-in
    9:15 a.m. Student meeting with directors in the auditorium
    9:15 a.m. Scheduled arrival time for the drivers
    9:30 a.m. Meeting with the drivers in the Black Box
    9:30 a.m. Students break into groups
    9:40 a.m. Driver match-up with groups-Drivers on Front Stage                                                                                                                9:50 a.m. Groups head out to canvass the neighborhood
    11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Groups return

    2. Spring Concert- 5/11/2023 @7pm (Performance Requirement for Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and Artist Guitar classes) 

    All Concerts will take place at the FHS Auditorium.

    Concert Attire:

    Black Dress Shirt

    Black or Khaki Pants

    Black Dress Shoes and black socks
