English 9 is a literature and writing course with specific standards set by the State of Virginia. Students will read a variety of short stories, poems, novels, and non-fiction material. In addition, they will be introduced to the MLA format for writing research papers. Students will complete a daily journal prompt which will count as a test grade at the end of each quarter. Daily activities will include working 15 minutes of silent reading,vocabulary, spelling, grammar and punctuation, writing exercises, literature, elements of literature, literary devices, and other related material. Textbooks are not issued, the material covered will be from a variety of sources.Spelling: When students are assigned spelling words, they will be given a pre-quiz. If they make a 100 on the pre-quiz, they will not have to take the spelling quiz. The pre-quiz grade will be recorded as the quiz grade.
