Maria MendozaJennifer GillisJennifer Gillis is very excited to be a part of the EL team at Frances Hazel Reid. Ms. Gillis is originally from California where she taught 5th and 2nd grade. She is also a former 3rd grade teacher in LCPS. Ms. Gillis has a Masters in TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages) from Grand Canyon University in Arizona. She is very excited about being an EL teacher and having a terrific year at FHR. Go Ravens!Kelly GottschalkYen WharenMs. Yen was born in Vietnam, but grew up in Houston, Texas. While working on her MA in education, she was a science lab and remedial reading teacher in Houston for five years. Ms. Yen then moved to DC where she served as an instructional coach for nine years. During this time, she attended The George Washington University and earned her Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. She has also received teaching grants and fellowships that have led her around the world. This is Ms. Yen's third year at FHR as a third grade English Language teacher. She is over the moon about serving the students of her community!
Jennifer Thompson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the State University of New York at Geneseo and a Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the State University of New York at Albany. This will be her fourteenth year teaching English Language Learners. She taught EL in North Carolina for one year and then came to Virginia, where she worked for Fairfax County Public Schools before joining Loudoun County. Helping students reach their full potential is Ms. Thompson’s passion and she is looking forward to a wonderful year at Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School.
