Allison Wittman

    Mrs. Wittman is excited to be joining the FHR family as an EL Teacher! Originally from the Philadelphia area, Mrs. Wittman graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with her Bachelors and Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She also has her ESL endorsement. She has been teaching for the past 18 years, most recently with Fairfax County Public Schools. She has taught 2nd and 4th grade. Mrs. Wittman has two children, Ben who is 8 years old and Lily who is 6 years old. In her free time, you can find her hiking with her husband, two children, and dog JoJo, reading a good book on the beach, or cheering on her Philadelphia sports teams! Mrs. Wittman is looking forward to entering her 19th year of teaching and getting to know all of the students, families, teachers, and staff at FHR!

    Kelly Winchell

    Ms. Winchell (AKA Ms. G.) is excited to be part of the EL team, providing students the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in English and grade level content. This is her 16th year at FHR and her 34th year of teaching! She received her elementary/special education degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo and completed graduate studies in early childhood special education at San Diego State University. She received her EL endorsement while teaching in California. Ms. Winchell is excited to begin another year at FHR!

    Yen Wharen
    Ms. Yen was born in Vietnam, but grew up in Houston, Texas. While working on her MA in education, she was a science lab and remedial reading teacher in Houston for five years. Ms. Yen then moved to DC where she served as an instructional coach for nine years. During this time, she attended The George Washington University and earned her Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. She has also received teaching grants and fellowships that have led her around the world. Ms. Yen loves her role as an English Language teacher. She is over the moon about serving the students of her community! 

    Jennifer Thompson

    Jennifer Thompson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the State University of New York at Geneseo and a Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the State University of New York at Albany. This will be her eighteenth year teaching English Language Learners. She taught EL in North Carolina for one year and then came to Virginia, where she worked for Fairfax County Public Schools before joining Loudoun County. Helping students reach their full potential is Ms. Thompson’s passion and she is looking forward to another wonderful year at Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School.

    Debra Pitts

    Debbie Pitts joined the FHR EL team in 2020. She grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, and graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in special education. She then joined the Peace Corps and taught in Ecuador for two years. Upon her return, she was employed as a bilingual special education teacher in the Washington, DC Public Schools for 10 years. During this time, she earned her Masters of Education in ESL from George Mason University. Ms Pitts moved to Loudoun and worked at Banneker Elementary as a teaching assistant for two years and as a special education teacher for eight years. Ms. Pitts and her family enjoy spending time with their pets and providing foster care for dogs and cats in search of a forever home.  


    Abby Stivason

    Abby Stivason joined the FHR family as an English Language teacher in 2021. Ms. Stivason is from outside of Pittsburgh. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. She has taught in Prince William County and Fairfax County Public Schools. This will be her 9th year of teaching and she is thrilled to be joining such a wonderful school that she intends to call home for a long time! She has previously taught students in kindergarten, first, and third grades.

    Brittany Faria
    Brittany Faria graduated from West Virginia University with a BA in Spanish and a passion for teaching and traveling. Brittany earned her MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, VT. It was at SIT, with her fellow graduate students, that Brittany learned in an experiential paradigm and began incorporating this modality into her own teaching. Brittany has traveled to dozens of countries throughout South and Central America, Europe, and the Middle East, and she has taught English, yoga, and mindfulness to indigenous populations in these locales. Brittany is a 250 hour certified yoga instructor and enjoys leading vinyasa flow, stand up paddle board yoga, and mindfulness meditations. Brittany lives in Leesburg with her husband, four year old daughter, Luana, and 20 month old son, Caleb.
