If a Virginia Private College appeals to you, don’t be discouraged by the stated cost of attendance.  Instead, consider waiting for the college’s financial aid offer before making final decisions.  Most Virginia private colleges will do their best to ensure students receive the highest quality education for a reasonable cost.  Last year, our colleges awarded over $500 million in institutional aid!  To learn more about the affordability of Virginia's private colleges, click here.

     Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant Program

Did you know that Virginia residents planning to attend a private college are eligible to receive over $12,000 in award money over the course of their 4 years?  The Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG) is a program of the Commonwealth of Virginia, providing grants to full-time students at eligible private non-profit colleges in the state.  VTAG is NOT need based.  In 2017-2018, Virginia private college students received $3,200 (undergraduate students) and $1,600 (graduate students in health professions) in VTAG awards.  We hope this amount will increase again next year.

Better yet, plan to attend the 2017 Virginia Private College Week held July 24-29.  Virginia Private College Week affords prospective undergraduate students the ability to visit participating college campuses.  Students will receive three application fee waivers for visiting at least three participating colleges during the week.  College consultants and high school guidance counselors are eligible as well to receive the three application fee waivers for participating.
