I am a 16 year veteran of Loudoun County Public Schools and a 19-year veteran of teaching. I've taught 2nd and 3rd grade, and also English in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.  But my love for books brought me to the Lunsford library.  This is my happy place and I'm happy to share it with the amazing students of J. Michael Lunsford!  The avid readers at our school challenge me each and every day to help them find their next great book.  I am impressed by the dedication and motivation to read shown by the students at Lunsford.  It is truly a delight to help you navigate the books and technology in our library and to teach you good digital citizenship skills.  I look forward each day to assisting you find quality literature that extends your learning beyond the classroom.
I currently live in Lovettsville, VA with my husband, three kids, and German Shepherd dog, Pria.  My hobbies include: reading (well, yeah!), making soap, and crafting.  I'd love to hear about your hobbies, too!  Be sure to make the library someplace you go each and every week!

Hi all! This is my third year serving as a JML school librarian! I also taught English, and worked as a School Librarian in Henrico County. I live in Winchester, VA where I was also born and raised; my husband and I moved back to my hometown from Richmond, VA in 2018, and now live in my grandparents' old house. I am a VCU and ODU alum, a book-nerd, a music maker, and a food finatic. I also enjoy being active by spending time outdoors, running, and practicing yoga whenever I can. My husband and I live in Winchester, VA with our three fur-babies: 2 cats, Aretha and Orville, and 1 dog, Magpie. Soon, we will welcome our first child, a daughter due in January!
My favorite thing about being an educator is helping students find their bliss in learning by exploring their interests through reading, problems solving, and creating. I also love growing as a professional by collaborating with others in order to make good ideas into awesome realiites! I can't wait to work with all of you in the library. Stop by and nerd-out with me anytime!
Please contact me at rebecca.shannon@lcps.org to collaborate or ask questions.

I am very excited to be part of the library team at J. Michael Middle School. I am married and have 2 boys, a senior at Middleburg Academy and a sixth grader here at Lunsford.

I am originally from Egypt and I moved to Virginia in 2005.I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Library Studies from Cairo University and started off my career as a Librarian for UNESCO. Consequently, I held several administrative positions until I started substituting and volunteering for LCPS in 2012. I look forward to getting to know the students and my colleagues throughout this school year.
In my free time, I explore cooking different types of international cuisines. In addition, my family and I enjoy going on vacations exploring different beaches where we can take advantage of all the water activities. I also grab any opportunity when I have time to myself to read a good book. Looking forward to another wonderful year at JML!
