    Katharina Reed, Librarian

I consider myself very lucky to be a part of the J. Michael Lunsford Middle School library, since I get to know and work with all of our wonderful students and staff and make a difference in our community.
I was born in Germany, grew up in Belgium, moved back to Germany to complete a 3 year apprenticeship program as a seamstress, to move yet again to earn my Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and Management at FIT in Manhattan. After six years in the fashion and home furnishings industry and living in San Francisco, my husband and I decided it was time for me to devote full-time to our two beautiful daughters. Six years ago, I started as a library assistant at JML, when it first opened. I became one of the librarians at JML in 2014 and earned my Master of Education in Library Media Science from Longwood University in 2016.

In my free time my husband and I love to cheer on our two daughters playing club and Freedom HS soccer. Every weekend in the winter months you will find all four of us skiing down the slopes in WV, and during the summer months you will find us with our dog hiking and camping in our beautiful states that are around us. My little “me-time” is spent with playing volleyball, reading, landscaping, and of course I still like to sew, paint, and re-upholster furniture.

I am very excited to be part of the library team at J. Michael Middle School. I am married and have 2 boys, an ninth grader at Freedom HS and a third grader at Liberty Elementary.

I am originally from Egypt and I moved to Virginia in 2005.I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Library Studies from Cairo University and started off my career as a Librarian for the UNESCO. Consequently, I held several administrative positions until I started substituting and volunteering for LCPS in 2012. I look forward to getting to know the students and my colleagues throughout this school year.
In my free time, I explore cooking different types of international cuisines. In addition, my family and I enjoy going on vacations exploring different beaches where we can take advantage of all the water activities. I also grab any opportunity when I have time to myself to read a good book. Looking forward to another wonderful year at JML!
