•                                      WELCOME TO AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE!

I am Heather Burton, the American Sign Language teacher at Broad Run.  This is my 27th year of teaching and my 21st year of teaching ASL at BRHS. Prior to teaching ASL, I taught special education for 3 years in North Carolina and for another 3 years in Virginia.  I graduated from Methodist College in Fayetteville, North Carolina with a B.S. in special education K-12.  In order to gain my teaching certification in ASL, I attended Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.

I am married and live in Inwood, WV.  My husband is also a teacher and a coach.  We have 19-year 18-year-old twin daughters who are sophomores in college.. I am originally from Mars, PA, a small town north of Pittsburgh.

Some notes:  On this website, you will find colleges/universities that accept and do not accept ASL for the freshman foreign language entrance requirement.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me at the beginning of the school year!  Some schools change their requirements from time to time, so if a school does not accept it now, they may accept it later.  The list I have posted is from August of 2006-present.
