Susan Matyuf is in her eighth year teaching at Sterling Middle School. A career switcher, Mrs. Matyuf first worked as an Audiologist/Aural Rehabilitation Therapist at Children's Hospital in San Diego, and in her own private practice.  After many years home with her four children, Mrs. Matyuf decided to pursue a life-long dream of teaching, and completed her special education licensure program at the University of Virginia.  She earned her Autism Certificate at George Mason University in 2012, and last year earned her the prestigious National Board Certification as an Exceptional Needs Specialist.

When not teaching, Mrs. Matyuf enjoys spending time with her growing family including her grandson, Kiprian, as well as her over-sized mutt, Tucker. Soon, a new grand-daughter will join the family! All four of her children are graduates of Park View High School, and attended Sterling Middle School, as well!

Mrs. Matyuf  & Ms. Trautner co-sponsor a friendship club at our school, pairing peer-buddies in the general population with students with special needs. Fostering a spirit of friendship and acceptance, our club will meet once/month.
Admiring the determination and drive of Helen Keller, Mrs. Matyuf hopes to give her students the tools needed to reach their potential. As Helen Keller said,
“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something…”
