SMALL GROUPSThe school counselor offers small groups which address a wide range of topics. Some examples of small group topics include social skills, such as friendship building and self-control, and family changes, such as divorce/separation or grief/loss issues. Groups to address academic issues such as study skills and organizational skills may also be made available. The group topics offered vary and are based on the needs of students.
Students are usually referred to small groups by parent request, student need assessment and/or teacher referral. Most groups run for a series of six weeks and are scheduled so they do not conflict with direct instruction, usually at lunch.Small group counseling allows students to enjoy time with peers and realize they are not alone as they learn strategies to help them be successful.
