    When is the library open?
    The library is open from 7:30a.m. - 2:50p.m. Monday through Friday.
     
    How often does my child come to the library?
    All grades (K-5) come to the library once a week for a 30 minute lesson.  During this time, students are able to select and check out books followed by either a story time or a lesson that is designed to help them learn about the library's resources and extend what they are learning about in the classrooms.
     
     
            
    How many books can my child check out? 
    Kindergarten students may check out 1 book.  Those students in the first grade may check out 2 books.  Grades 2-5 may check out 2 books and 1 magazine.  Students may not exceed these limits without special permission of the library staff.  Exceptions are made for those students requiring special materials for book reports or projects.                                                                                                                                                      
    Can books be renewed?
    Yes. Students may renew items by bringing them to the checkout desk.  Items must be present to be renewed.  There is a maximum of two renewals for an item unless there are special circumstances.
     
    Are there fines for overdue books?
    No.  We do not charge fines for overdue books.  However, students are to return all library materials on a weekly basis.  If books or other materials are not returned on time, the student may not check out additional items. Students will be advised of any items still on their record each week and will be given an overdue notice.  If materials are still not returned in a timely manner, overdue notices will be mailed home followed by a phone call as a gentle reminder.  Replacement fees will be charged for items that are lost or damaged.
     
     What happens if my book is lost or damaged?
    Borrowing books from the library is a privilege.  Therefore, students are expected to treat all library materials with care.  If a book or other item is lost or damaged beyond repair, the replacement cost will be sent home to the parents or guardians of the student.  Payment for lost or damaged materials is to be made with the exact change or by check to Arcola Elementary School.  If a book is found after it has been paid for but not yet replaced, a refund will be made.  However, if the book has already been replaced, money cannot be refunded.
     
    Can a student checkout Reference materials?
    Materials in the Reference collection do not circulate.  Exceptions will be made to staff members who need specific items.  These may be checked out for a one day period.
     
     How many books may a staff member check out?
    School staff may check out as many items as needed for a 30 day time period.  The check out period may be extended based on the staff member's needs.  Reference materials may be checked out for 1 day.
