Music is provided by the instructor.
Students will be required to provide:
Classical Guitar (for practice at home)
1 extra set of strings (for your guitar at home)
Footstool or guitar support (in some cases a strap may be used)
Picks (thick or heavy preferred)
1 black three-ring binder (very important)
This class will concentrates mainly on classical guitar. Music from a variety of style periods will be covered. Students will learn to read music and they will learn basic music theory. Good technique (sitting position, hand position) will be taught and used in the performance of all styles of music.
Grading will be based on: a reheasal skills grade which is given every three weeks; written tests; and performance tests. Each category counts as on third of the grade for that quarter. Participation/attendance in performances also count as performance tests. In the last week of each quarter the student may re-take any playing test. The new grade will replace the original grade if the score is higher.
Rehearsal skills grades will be based on behavior/cooperation, bringing class materials (mentioned above), and evidence that one has practiced. Because this is a performing ensemble good attendance is very important. Poor attendance may result in a student's class participation grade being lowered as this affects the performance level of the entire group.
Class members must display an attitude of respect to the teacher and to fellow students at all times.
No food or drink other than bottled water.
When the teacher is addressing the class there is to be no talking or guitar playing.
