Welcome to 2nd grade and the Sterling Elementary family. My name is Nancy Funston, and the 2023-2024 school year will be my ninth year teaching English Learners (EL) at our school.
I have a bachelor's degree in English with a focus on American Literature from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia and an endorsement to teach English Learners. My desire to teach EL comes from my personal experiences growing up in Chicago with immigrant grandparents who spoke broken English. It is my greatest desire to help every child realize their potential, regardless of language barriers. I strive to make learning fun.
I am proud to say that I grew up in the Midwest (Illinois and Indiana). When I'm not at school, I love being outdoors hiking, kayaking, gardening, and photographing anything that catches my eye. I am a dog lover even though I don't have my own.
I'm excited about meeting and getting to know each of your students. Please call or email me if you have questions or if you would just like to say hello. We're going to have a wonderful year. Let's go Jaguars!
Sincerely,
Ms. Nancy Funston
