• Visitors to Our Habitat

This winter we added several bird feeders to the habitat and were rewarded with a great variety of birds. Our sightings include:

    Northern Cardinal
    (state bird of Virginia)
    Dark-eyed Junco
    Red-Winged Blackbird
    American Robin
    Pine Siskin
    Tree Swallow (nesting)
    House Finch
    Eastern Bluebird
    Chipping Sparrow
    American Goldfinch
    Brown-headed Cowbird

In 2009, we also added a Bluebird box to the courtyard. Although Bluebirds did come and look at our nest box, it was a pair of Tree Swallows that chose to move in. We were delighted in the opportunity to closely observe these birds and their young. We have two movies about them.

These movies will play in Windows Media Player. This is standard on most Windows PCs. If you use a Mac, you can download WMP for your Mac.
