• Beatrice McClain, a member of the Lovettsville Town Council, began thinking about the possibility for a community center in Lovettsville as early as 1967.  She began discussing it with the Director of Parks and Recreation and continued her efforts every year thereafter.  When the current school opened in fall 1973, the townspeople turned out at public meetings to request that the old school become a community center
The money was approved by the County  Board of Supervisors in May 1974, and  the old school opened as the Lovettsville Community Center on October 1, 1974.
