My name is Mindy Scott. This will be my 17th year teaching at Little River and my 13th year teaching first-grade. I earned my B.S. from George Mason University and my Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Marymount University. I am a life-long learner! I've completed over 30 additional graduate credits since earning my Master's Degree 12 years ago.

My husband Greg and I are the proud parents of two sons. Both of my boys are Little River alumni. My oldest son, Alex, recently graduated from James Madison University with his Masters Degree in Teaching. He is starting his career as a 5th-grade teacher at Lowes Island Elementary School in Loudoun County this fall. My youngest son, Brian, attends Virginia Tech and is majoring in Architecture/Industrial Design. He will be spending the fall semester studying in Europe, returning to Tech for the spring semester. In my free time, I enjoy going to JMU and VT football games, cooking, hiking, playing games, and spending time with my friends and family.

I love teaching 1st grade! First-grade students are naturally curious about the world around them. It is a year of great growth for students as they learn to read, write, and refine their developing literacy and math skills. My goal in the classroom is to instill a lifelong love of learning through active, hands-on, and cooperative learning experiences. I focus on building a classroom community in which students feel safe, happy, care about others, and support each other's learning. Please do not hesitate to contact me throughout the year. Together we can make first-grade a wonderful year for your child!
