In preparation for the LCPS gifted screening and identification process, which will take place from November to January, 4th grade students will participate in weekly talent development lessons and independent learning activities specifically designed to nurture and support their creative thinking and problem-solving skills. The lessons and independent learning activities will provide students with exposure to the types of tasks that will be part of the gifted eligibility process. The LCPS gifted eligibility process was delayed last spring due to issues related to COVID-19.

Gifted resource teachers will also work closely with 4th and 5th grade classroom teachers to share activities that enrich and extend the core curriculum for students who need additional challenges this fall.

The Gifted Education Department understands that families will have questions about this process. Special presentations will be available for families in late September and early October. The presentations will address the 2021-22 gifted screening and identification process.

For students currently enrolled in 3rd grade, our gifted eligibility process for services starting in the 2022-2023 school year will proceed as normal beginning in January 2022. As part of this process, all 3rd grade students will take the CogAT between October 18 - November 30, 2021.  Information regarding this assessment and our school’s exact testing dates will be shared at a later date.
