Elementary Physical Education is a developmental program designed to enhance movement, balance, fine and gross motor skills, and general physical activity. Skills themes encompass many aspects of movement and apply these skills to both new and familiar activities. Physical education is taught three days per week for 30 minutes by the PE Specialist. The classroom teacher compliments what is taught in PE on alternate days so that students are physically active daily. The Virginia Standards of Learning identify the fives strands listed below for physical education:
    Skilled Movement
Demonstrate competence in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
    Movement Principles and Concepts
Apply movement principles and concepts to learning and developing motor skills and specialized movement forms.
    Personal Fitness
Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of personal fitness.
    Responsible Behaviors
Demonstrate responsible personal and social behaviors in physical activity settings.
    Physically Active Lifestyle
Demonstrate a physically active lifestyle, including activity within and outside of the physical education setting.
