• Newbery Books
John Newbery is credited with publishing the first book intended solely for children. He made children's book publishing an important part of the book business. Therefore, in 1922, when the decision was made by the American Booksellers Association to give an award each year to the author of the most distinguished piece of children's literature, it was fitting that John Newbery's name was selected.
