• Balanced Literacy in Grades 3-5
In grades 3-5 students also participate in a balanced literacy approach to instruction.  This instruction provides students with daily opportunities to engage in various reading and writing activities to help them communicate more effectively.
These include read aloud, shared reading, interactive reading, guided reading, and independent reading.  In addition, they engage in modeled writing, shared writing, interactive writing, guided writing, and independent writing.  This approach enables teachers to anchor their literacy instruction with best practices and to help them incorporate the multitude of content instruction that is necessitated at their grade levels due to the SOLs of Virginia.
