Hi, my name is Amy McLaughlin. The 2020-2021 school year will be my eighteenth year as a teacher at Dominion Trail Elementary. During these eighteen years, I have served as a 4th Grade Team Lead, Mentor, PTA Representative, Technology Representative, and Continental Math Representative. I also enjoy offering classes in the ASEP program at DTES, such as the Girls' and Boys' Running Club.
I have lived in Loudoun County for over 30 years. I attended Meadowland Elementary, Seneca Ridge Middle School, and graduated from Broad Run High School. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Business from Marymount University, and I received my Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University. All five of my children have attended DTES, and I believe it is the best elementary school ever!
Fourth grade uses a Project Based Learning approach to engage students in authentic and meaningful ways. Students actively explore real world problems and challenges to acquire deeper knowledge. They also help drive the decision making in the classroom and engage in hands on learning projects that align with the Virginia SOL's. Our students utilize 21st century skills including; communication, collaboration, creative thinking, critical thinking, and citizenship skills.
I love watching my students grow physically, emotionally, socially, and academically throughout the school year, and I know 2020- 2021 will be an amazing year!
