The Loudoun Youth Initiative (LYI) is a consortium of involved citizens representing Loudoun County's government, business, faith-based, educational, community and youth organizations, who are committed to coordinating and implementing Loudoun County's substantial resources to address challenges identified by Loudoun's youth in the areas of:
- leisure and extracurricular recreational and social activities;
- the enormous community change resulting from Loudoun County's exceptional growth and changing demographics; and
- access to public transportation, which is oriented to the diverse needs of Loudoun's youth; and
- the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; group intimidation, including gang activity.
The Loudoun Youth Initiative was undertaken in 2004 by the Advisory Commission on Youth at the request of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, and in collaboration with the Loudoun County Government, Loudoun County Public Schools, business leaders, and community and faith-based organizations.
