    contributes to the informal tone.  Highlight and write a comment for every highlight you do.  You are
    NOT writing an essay.  Copies are on my deskin 509 if you need one.
     **No homework over winter break; continue reading your nonfiction book (due on the 11th with your
    SOAPSTone sheet) and bring your book to class on Thursday. 
    16.  Due Friday, 12/21:  5th block only: Find a short and easy inform and explain article from the 
    internet or a newspaper.  Attach it to the handout I gave you.  On the back, rewrite the article for a
    new purpose.  It should be clear to someone reading what your purpose is without you telling them.

    14.  Due Wednesday, 12/19:  5th block only:  Find an  article from a newspaper
    or on the internet.  Try to find a short/easy one.  It must be for any purpose OTHER THAN inform and

    Read the 3 rewrites on that page and label them with their purpose (all 3 are different).  Then,
    find a short and easy inform and explain article from the internet or a newspaper.  Attach it to the

    3.  Romeo and Juliet--do terms review sheet (match the term to the quote--some have more
    than one answer and a few are used twice), watch Act V video, and discuss a few other
    wrap up items
     
    Friday, April 27
    1.  TKAM:  Review Chapters 7-9 and turn in notes
    2.  Sandra Cisneros "Hair" essays:  Work in partners to do a writing plan (see below) for the
    "Hair" essay.  Next, look at student example essays and give them a score of 1/2/3/4.  Look
    at the teacher essays and the graded rubric to understand why each essay got the score it did. 
    Talk about how to make your essay a 4.
    Essay plan--be sure to discuss figurative language, sound devices, and structure/comparison.
    Be sure to explain each character's personality.  Use present tense, no personal words,
    integrate your quotes, and check your grammar.  If absent, you may copy someone else's
    essay plan/web that contains all the info that must go into your essay.
     
    Wednesday, April 25
    1.  Romeo and Juliet:  Read and do notes sheet for Act V.  The notes are on the
    back of the imagery sheet we did last class.  You need to think of "if/then" statements
    that happen in Act V.  For example, "if X did or did not happen, then Y might have or might
    not have happened---if Romeo had checked on Balthasar's news, then he would know that
    Juliet was really alive."
    2.  "Hair" essays--we started revising the essays you guys wrote awhile back.  This is not
    something you can do on your own, so I'll have to give it to you in class if you were absent.
     
    Monday, April 23
    1.  Romeo and Juliet:  Act IV reading comprehension questions, watch Act IV video,
    do Act IV imagery worksheet  (if absent, come get both handouts from my desk and do
    for Wednesday)
    2.  To Kill A Mockingbird:  Collect and discuss webquest, take reading quiz chapters
    1-6 and discuss chapters 1-6
     
    Thursday, April 19
    1.  Review vocab and check LINCs
    2.  Read and take notes for Act 4 of Romeo and Juliet
    3.  Discuss upcoming assignments in TKAM

    need to read and fill out the notes sheet

    1.  Journal--write a 1/2 page on one of the following topics:  tell about your
    spring break, talk about your first 3 quarters of high school and what you
    hope to happen in 4th quarter, or comment on Romeo and Juliet.
