The TOEFL® test measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and university settings. As opposed to the TOEIC®  test that measures the use of English in a business context, the TOEFL® test has an academic focus.  An internationally accepted standard of academic English proficiency, it is a required certification by more than 5000 colleges and universities worldwide.

Colleges will accept either the SAT or ACT without preference. Which test is best for you?

One suggestion given by college advisors is to take each test one time and compare scores. Some students will excel in the SAT, while others will excel in the ACT. If there is a clear favorite, then take that test one more time. Test preparation companies frequently offer a free or low cost full length test and will review the results with you. Studying for a standardized test is ALWAYS a good idea and will help to raise a student's score.
