This is my 25th year teaching chemistry and 21st year at Potomac Falls High School. I have taught Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Conceptual Physics. This year, I am teaching academic Chemistry, research chemistry and AP Chemistry courses. I am generally in school around 8:45 and leave around 4:30, but schedules can vary with two kids at home. My students often come for extra help either before or after school. Additionally, there are Science National Honor Society students that tutor in the library after school several days a week.I am a native of Loudoun County and graduated from Loudoun Valley in 1994. I went to college at Va Tech (GO HOKIES) and in 1998 graduated with a BA in Chemistry. After teaching for six years I attended night and weekend courses at UVA's Curry School of Education and graduated with a M.Ed. in 2006. In 2014, I was recognized by James Madison University's Chemistry Department as the "Virginia Outstanding Chemistry Teacher of the Year." JMU selects one teacher from the entire state per year based upon incoming student recommendations and it was quite and honor and I still struggle to believe that I was chosen. In my free time I am active in Scouts and while I consider myself an avid Sci-Fi and Fantasy nerd, I don't speak Klingon or anything too extreme.I can be reached through Russell.Murphy@lcps.org
