Language Arts Independent Reading:  Students are expected to read outside of class for a minimum of 20 minutes a day.  They may choose any book or graphic novel (school and age appropriate) at their independent reading level (not too hard; not too easy).  When in Language Arts class, however, students should have a chapter book--graphic novels such as The Diary of the Wimpy Kid do not work well with the literary vocabulary students will need to know and use.

In-class projects such as teacher-student conferences or other activities will be completed to verify independent reading.  Parents: have fun with reading by reading with or sharing your own reading with your child.
