  • Read the full One LCPS: Forward Together Entry Plan.

  • Progress Key

  • Phase 1: Engage

    Completed

Meet with students to listen and learn about their lived experience in our schools and
division. Discuss how we can better communicate with them and get their feedback as
well as determine what needs to be done to increase and improve student
engagement and achievement across the division.

    (Objective 1)

    Ongoing

Meet with teacher leadership to determine perceptions about the degree of emphasis
on academic success across the division and the degree to which the written, taught
and tested curriculum are both aligned and clearly understood.

    (Objective 4)

    Completed

Meet with key communicators throughout LCPS and establish an ongoing dialogue.
Work to learn about their concerns and hopes for our students and solicit support and
feedback regarding how we might best move the division forward.

    (Objective 1)

    Completed

Review school discipline data with a focus on understanding root causes of student
behaviors and needed interventions and supports at the classroom, school and
    division level.

    (Objective 3)

  • Phase 2: Empower

    Completed

Analyze current student achievement data to include the following variables: Academic
Achievement, Student Subgroup Achievement, College and Career Readiness, Attendance
Rate, Graduation Rate and Suspension Rate.

    (Objective 5)

    Completed

Review and evaluate the division’s current behavior intervention model and assess its impact
    on academic and behavior outcomes.

    (Objective 3)

    In Progress

Working with the new Director of Special Education, initiate a Special Education Audit to
benchmark our work against best practices and develop recommendations to ensure we are
meeting the needs of these learners.*

    (Objective 5)

    Completed

Review recommendations, progress and impact from the Mental Health Task Force and
continue to identify opportunities for ongoing support and growth.

    (Objective 3)

    Completed

Review local and state school improvement processes to ensure that the outcomes (goals) of
the LCPS processes are aligned with state mandates and expectations outlined in the strategic
plan. Ensure that LCPS processes provide a means for ongoing dialogue between school and
central support teams to develop a clear picture of local data, translate that learning to daily
classroom practice and provide for the strategic allocation of resources where most needed.

    (Objective 4)

    Completed

Assess current division literacy and math initiatives to determine alignment with the most
appropriate research-based methodology for literacy and math instruction and intervention,
including the Virginia Literacy Act. Review methodology for determining grade level
performance of all students and processes for identifying the supports our learners need.

    (Objective 5)

     * Goal 4 also supports this action.

  • Phase 3: Enrich

    In Progress

Review curriculum documents to assess the degree to which they are aligned to expectations
for daily, rigorous student engagement. Initiate a Curriculum Audit on existing curricula and
    alignment of staffing resources.

    (Objective 4)

    In Progress

Understand the degree to which instructional practices are clearly articulated and consistently
    implemented in our classrooms.

    (Objective 4)

    Pending

Examine and implement recommendations from the Special Education Audit.

    (Objective 5)

    Ongoing

Share opportunities for growth in school improvement processes and share with principals.
Determine if the process translates to daily classroom practice and provides for the strategic
allocation of resources where most needed across the division.

    (Objective 5)

    Ongoing

Ensure Mental Health processes and resources are streamlined across the school division, to
include mental health providers, nonprofits and community partners, to better serve our
students, staff and families. Explore additional programming.

    (Objective 3)
