    IN NOVEMBER 2022!!

     

    WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A PURPLE STAR SCHOOL AWARD? 

    • Provide training to school staff on issues important to military connected families
    • Schools must have a trained point of contact for military families
    • Schools must have information on their website for incoming military families and students
    • Schools must have a student-led transition program (Our Military Connected Student Ambassador program) 
    • There should be division wide activities (Month of the Military Child in April for LCPS) 

     

    WHAT IS a "Military Friendly" School? 

    • Awareness of challenges, supportive policies
    • Connections and supports in place
    • Professional development for staff- raises awareness in school staff of challenges faced by military connected students and families
    • Fosters diverse, inclusive, supportive environments
    • Standardizes approach to military students and families
