What is it and why does my child take it?
PALS measures knowledge of important literacy fundamentals and is used as a diagnostic tool to guide reading instruction. It is given to all K-2 students three times per year and only in the fall to 3rd grade, students new to Virginia public schools did not meet the spring benchmark in 2nd grade or have received summer interventions. Teachers use the data from this assessment to determine the next steps for literacy instruction.

How will I receive the results?
PALS results are shared on ParentVUE after the testing window for the state has closed.
