Mrs. Heather Epifano

Mrs. Epifano is a fellow Northern Virginia native, having grown up in Fairfax County. She obtained her B.A. in Geography with minors in Geoscience and International Studies from Virginia Tech. Upon graduation, she moved to Connecticut for a job in Genetic research. Following her passion for marine mammal conservation, she returned to NOVA and received her M.S. in Environmental Science from George Mason University in partnership with the Smithsonian. While working on her thesis, she taught Genetics at GMU for two years and also began substitute teaching where she fell in love with teaching at the high school level. This school year (2023-2024) will be Mrs. Epifano’s third year at Independence and she will be teaching both Research and Academic Earth Science. She previously taught AP Environmental Science as well as Geosystems and Oceanography for seven years in Fairfax County. 

Mrs. Epifano currently lives in Ashburn with her husband, three young children, and Aussiedoodle. She loves being outdoors, watching movies, cooking, reading, and completing cross-stitch projects.
