Mrs. Heather Epifano

Mrs. Epifano is a fellow Northern Virginia native, having grown up in Fairfax County. She obtained her B.A. in Geography with minors in Geoscience and International Studies from Virginia Tech. Upon graduation, she moved to Connecticut for a job in Genetic research. Following her passion for marine mammal conservation, she returned to NOVA and received her M.S. in Environmental Science from George Mason University in partnership with the Smithsonian. While working on her thesis, she taught Genetics at GMU for two years and also began substitute teaching where she fell in love with teaching at the high school level. This school year (2022-2023) will be Mrs. Epifano’s second year at Independence and she will be teaching AP Environmental Science and Earth Science. She previously taught Geosystems and Oceanography for seven years in Fairfax County.

Mrs. Epifano currently lives in Ashburn with her husband, two young children, and Aussiedoodle. She loves being outdoors, watching movies, cooking, reading, and completing cross-stitch projects.

Students should check Schoology for assignments and other materials related to their course.  Please feel free to contact Mrs. Epifano with any questions or concerns through email at heather.epifano@lcps.org.
