Degrees and Certifications:

Dr. Courtney Kurtz

Welcome to Buffalo Trail! I am Courtney Kurtz, and I joined the BTES family in the fall of 2022 as the Dean of Special Education.

I started my journey as a special education teacher in Loudoun County Public Schools, teaching students with autism, learning disabilities, multiple disabilities, and students in grades K-5. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree with two certifications in general education Prek-6th and special education K-12 from Westminster College in Pennsylvania. I also have a Master's Degree in Teaching and Learning, specializing in Elementary Education from Liberty University, where I focused my research on supporting parents of students in special education through advocacy and coaching. I obtained my Doctorate in Education with a focus in Educational Leadership from Liberty University with a research focus on increasing test scores on the measurement of academic progress assessment (MAP) in math for students in special education. In addition to my doctoral degree, I hold a certificate through the U.S. Department of Defense in human subject research for educational regulations in data analysis. Outside of education, I love spending time with my family and our dog Scout! My favorite hobbies are cooking, spending time outside, volunteering at my church in our special needs ministry, and doing many crafting projects at home.
