Mrs. Dawson

Welcome to first grade at Aldie Elementary School! My name is Mrs. Dawson and I’m so excited to be your teacher this year. This will be my tenth  year teaching in Loudoun County. My first year I taught fourth grade and then I moved to kindergarten for the next eight years. When I had my third child I made the tough decision to take a break from teaching to stay at home with my little ones. My youngest child is now going into kindergarten and I thought this would be a great time to go back to one of my favorite places, the classroom.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, which mostly consists of taking my kids to their practices and games. I’m married to my handsome husband, Jason and we have four sweet children, one boy and three girls. My oldest child, Luke, plays hockey and is going to be the CEO of a successful company one day. He is going into 6th grade. My second child, Paisley, is a gymnast and talented artist. She is going into fourth grade. My third child, Willow, is a dancer and soccer player who loves making us laugh. She will be going into second grade. My youngest child, Violet, loves gymnastics, soccer, lipstick, and headbands. She will be going into Kindergarten. Since I grew up in Utah, I love being outdoors and doing any and all outdoor sports. Whether it be fishing, hiking, camping, repelling, rock climbing, swimming, snowboarding, sledding or running, if I’m outside I’m happy. I especially love spending time in my garden and I love working out. I ran my first marathon in Richmond and my first half marathon in Washington DC, which was the Nike Women’s Half Marathon, where I got a Tiffany necklace at the finish line. If you are outside, chances are you will see me!

This year is going to be a lot of fun! We are going to become better authors, illustrators, problem solvers, scientists, mathematicians, and historians. You can look forward to exciting hands-on classroom activities and projects where we will encourage our classmates to do their best and where we will all learn from our mistakes. Please check the Aldie Elementary School website and the first grade page for more information about the curriculum, current events, and my contact information.

I believe that communication plays a key role in student success. Please contact me with any questions or concerns about this coming school year and throughout the school year. I have no doubt that this year will be amazing! I look forward to meeting you and showing you our classroom. See you on August 24th for our Open House!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Melissa Dawson
