PALS Tutors support students in grades K-3 in small groups of students of five or less, who have been identified as needing additional support in reading. The PALS tutors work side by side with the school reading specialists to help students improve early literacy skills, including phonemic awareness and fluency. PALS tutors are only present in the school building on days/times when they are working with students and often begin after the school year starts when student needs are identified and groups can be established. Horizon has two wonderful PALS tutors you can learn more about below.

I am excited to work with Ms. Costello for my second year at Horizon.  I am a graduate of the University of Delaware with a B.S. in Elementary Education.  Currently, I am working on a graduate certificate/endorsement in ESL at UVA. I have been in education for over 25 years, including as an elementary classroom teacher in grades K-5 and a resource teacher.

In my free time, I love to spend time with my husband, 2 children, and my dog Rosie.  We enjoy visiting National Parks and watching lacrosse games (Go Hoyas)!  In addition, I love to read and take long walks with friends.
