LCPS School Counseling Internship Program

  • School Counseling Internship Program

Welcome to the School Counseling Practicum/Internship Site! On these pages you will find information you will need in order to successfully secure a practicum or internship experience with Loudoun County Public Schools.

Administrators, School Counselors, and School Counseling Services model professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions with School Counseling Practicum/Internship Students.

There are 96 schools and 4 educational centers. There are approximately 350 school counselors within LCPS. We serve 83,000+ students at 18 high schools, 17 middle schools and 61 elementary schools. We are located 45 miles west of Washington D.C. and border Jefferson County, WV; Clarke, Fairfax, Fauquier, Prince William Counties in Virginia and the Potomac River. On the other side of the Potomac River is the state of Maryland, with access to Frederick, Montgomery and Washington Counties.

  • Step 1

    University Supervisors/Placement Coordinators:

Please have the student submit a Teacher in Training Application once the Fall 2024 portal opens in April.

    Recruitment Job Page

    • If the student is an employee of LCPS they do not need to fill out an application, but we need to know their position title. If the student is an employee of LCPS they may be required to submit an educational leave request to his or her principal, which can be obtained from human resources. Please have the student/employee review the request prior to submitting his or her placement request to LCPS for student teacher, practicum, field experience, observation, internship, etc.

    • Placements should not be shared with students until they have attended our Teachers in Training (TNT) orientation and have been cleared.

    • All students new to Loudoun will be required to complete a mandatory TNT orientation before reporting to the assigned school. Ideally, the student should finish the orientation 8 weeks prior to reporting to the assigned school. This is beneficial for the student in the event the student's fingerprint results are delayed. This will ensure the student starts on time, pending fingerprints and TB clearance.

  • Step 2

    Requesting Placement for Practicum/Intern Students:

    • To request placement in LCPS, please do so by May 1 for fall placements and October 1 for spring placements.
    • Requests made after May 1 or October 1 may still be fulfilled depending on site supervisor availability.
    • Student placement requests should be completed HERE.
