Ms. Maria Porto

Mrs. Porto is excited to join the River Bend team as the Special Programs Counselor to support all students in our Special Education and Spectrum programs. This will be her 10th year in LCPS with previous experience as a College and Career Specialist and High School Counselor.  Mrs. Porto has a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from James Madison University and a Masters of Education in Counseling and Development with a concentration in school counseling from George Mason University. She is a graduate of Loudoun County Public Schools and currently lives in Loudoun with her husband and two children. During her free time she loves spending time with family and friends, reading and working on DIY projects!

As a school counselor, Mrs. Porto will support students’ academic, social/emotional, and career development through classroom counseling lessons, small group counseling and individual counseling. She is here to help students develop skills and strategies to be successful in school, at home, and in their community. Mrs. Porto believes in helping students become competent in responsible decision making, relationship skills, self-management, self-awareness, and social awareness.  Additionally, she will also facilitate parent/teacher conferences when needed.
