Degrees and Certifications:

Shannon Cornell

My professional career started after I earned my Bachelor's Degree in 1996 from Edinboro University of PA in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I moved to Virginia and began working at a private school right after graduation. In 1998, my career in Prince William County began as a second grade teacher. After 7 years, I earned my ESL certification and became an ESL teacher where I worked with students in all grade levels. In 2008, Steuart Weller was constructed here in Loudoun County and I transferred to be with my children. In 2010, I earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

A little about me.  I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have two wonderful boys. Both attended Weller as children which makes this school feel so much like home.  My husband and I love to hike, spend as much time outdoors as possible, and learn about the nature around us. I have now lived in Loudoun for 25 years, but I grew up in a rural community outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania which makes me a die-hard Pittsburgh sports fan.

Let me sum up my feelings on teaching with one of my favorite quotes by Rita Pierson. She says, "Every child deserves a champion--an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be."  I am excited for the new school year even with all the challenges that lie ahead and look forward for each child to be the best that he/she can be.
