Mr. Benjamin Fernandez

School Psychologist

I am excited to be starting my 4th year at Tuscarora High School, serving as the school psychologist and member of the Unified Mental Health Team.  I have been practicing for 25 years, with 20 in LCPS.  I began my career in Pennsylvania, continued in a neighboring school district, and eventually came to Loudoun.  My professional interests and areas of expertise include school safety and crisis management/intervention, the CHC model of cognitive abilities and assessment, trauma, and school mental health.

I grew up in Central New York and I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY and completed my master’s degree in school psychology and counseling at Bucknell University, in PA.

In my role at Tuscarora, I provide an array of psychological and school-based mental health services including assessment, consultation, counseling, prevention, and intervention.  For LCPS, I serve as a crisis team leader and assist in the implementation of crisis intervention services.  I also serve as a member and past chair of the National Association of School Psychologists School Safety and Crisis Response Committee.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and our dog Kirby, hiking, cooking, and discovering great places to eat.
