Academies of Loudoun Information

  • The Academies of Loudoun (ACL) is located on Sycolin Road in Leesburg and is comprised of three schools on one campus: Monroe Advanced Technology Academy (MATA), the Academy of Engineering and Technology (AET), and the Academy of Science (AOS). The mission of ACL is to empower students to explore, research, collaborate, innovate, and to make meaningful contributions to the world in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students who are accepted into one of the schools at ACL attend that school on either A days or B days and attend their home school on the other days.

Options for admission to ACL vary by grade. During 8th grade, students may apply for 9th grade entry into AOS or AET. Students currently in high school may apply during the Winter Admission Cycle for Advanced AET and MATA programs. Sophomores may apply to Advanced AET (two-year program with entry in 11th grade) if they will have completed Math Analysis and two science credits by the end of 10th grade. The only MATA program for which 9th graders may apply is Intro to Health & Medical Sciences. Sophomores may apply for 1-or 2-year programs, and juniors may apply only for 1-year programs at MATA.

The 2024 Winter Admissions Cycle is for 9th, 10th, and 11th  graders applying for enrollment to the Academies of Loudoun for the 2024-2025 school year. This is where you will find the most current information about the admissions process and the criteria necessary to apply to the Advanced  Academy of Engineering & Technology (Adv. AET) and/or the Monroe Advanced Technical Academy (MATA) programs. The Admissions & Outreach Team is here to support you through this process. We will be conducting a number of Winter Admissions Information Sessions throughout Loudoun County (see schedule below) and visiting with all of our LCPS high school students at their schools during the 2024 Winter Admissions Cycle. Please contact the Office of Admissions & Outreach at any time by email or by phone 571-252-1992. We look forward to meeting you soon!

    • All MATA and Advanced AET applicants must have a current PSAT (NMSQT) score
    • 9th grade MATA applicants may substitute their PSAT 8/9 score for the PSAT (NMSQT) score
